Bullying Scenario 2, Scene 3, Decision A: Consequences

Legal:

Jordan can be charged with Possession of Firearm on School Grounds (Class I felony, punishable by up to 15 months in prison), Possession of Handgun by Minor (Class 1 misdemeanor, punishable by 1 – 120 days in jail), Carrying Concealed Weapon (Class 2 misdemeanor, punishable by 1 – 60 days in jail), Assault by Pointing a Gun (Class A1 misdemeanor, punishable by 1 – 150 days in jail), Communicating Threats if he threatens anyone (Class 1 misdemeanor, punishable by 1 – 120 days in jail), and his father could possibly be charged with Storing Firearm in Manner Accessible to Minor (Class 1 misdemeanor, punishable by 1 – 120 days in jail).

Jordan would be charged in Juvenile Court. Some sentencing options the Judge has in Juvenile Court are: Probation, Secure Treatment Facility, and Juvenile Department of Correction. If Jordan was 14 or 15 years old, the Prosecutor could have asked for his case to be waived to Adult Court.
Be aware of what your school’s policy is on this issue, because some schools have a zero-tolerance stance on such behaviors.

School:

CCS prohibits bullying on school grounds, off school grounds at a school activity, and traveling to or from school or a school activity. It also sets the guidelines for schools’ bullying policies.

Medical:

Jordan's injuries could vary from needing stitches to a broken jaw.

Emotional:

Imagine how this experience might affect each of the people involved, including the victims, the perpetrators, as well as their family and friends. Different people are affected differently.

If you are being bullied, don’t be a victim, TELL someone you trust.
